Meet Dr. Murphy

Coleen Murphy, ND, LAc

California licensed Naturopathic Doctor and Acupuncturist.

I have been in clinical practice since 2004 when I founded Natural Medicine Works in California and have been providing naturopathic primary care medicine ever since. While I maintain a general practice, my specialty areas include women’s health, fertility, PCOS, maternity and newborn support, auto-immune disease, cancer, thyroid conditions, adrenal dysfunction, mood balance, and gastrointestinal disorders.

“My practice of family medicine is informed by my training but also by my life, as a wife and mother of two school aged boys, I am dedicated to keeping the entire family healthy. I had one hospital birth and one home birth and use my personal experiences to help guide new and expectant mothers through natural fertility services and the birthing process. I also care for my elderly relatives and see opportunities to apply naturopathic protocols and medicine at every stage of development, from conception to end of life.”

Personal Statement

I strive to achieve the highest level of health and vitality for those I treat. I believe in addressing the root cause of disease and treating it with non-invasive, natural therapies. My role is to inform and inspire you to take control of your health and to overcome your limitations. I care for the individual and offer personalized treatment plans while working side by side as a team with your other health care providers.

My Life and Medicine

I grew up in Northeast Philadelphia in a row home on a busy street and knew early on that I wanted to be a doctor.               I attended Syracuse University for my undergraduate degree and returned to Philadelphia to work as a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialist. Once the travel bug bit, I uprooted myself and took a year long journey through Asia, complete with training in Traditional Thai Massage at a Buddhist Temple in Northern Thailand.

The experience seeing the effectiveness and respect for life and nature inherent to traditional medicine, put me on the path to be a naturopathic doctor. I returned to Philadelphia in 1996 and began to practice and teach Thai Massage, and soon added the practice of Reiki, Qi Gong and Cranio-Sacral therapy. My experience as a bodyworker has been invaluable to the physical medicine work that I do with my patients.
